War-era bombs explode, trigger wildfire in central Vietnam

Three war-era bombs exploded in the central province of Thua Thien Hue Monday, triggering a fire that destroyed over five hectares of forest, Tuoi Tre quoted a local official as saying Wednesday.

According to Nguyen Dai Vui, chairman of Phong Dien District's People's Committee, a bomb went off at a forest in Vinh Nguyen Hamlet at noon that day.

While local forces of military and police were extinguishing the fire which was fueled by hot, dry weather two other bombs exploded, adding to the blaze.

The fire was not extinguished until later that day.
