One person died and another two were injured when a shell leftover from the Vietnam War exploded in the central province of Quang Ngai on Thursday.

The accident took place at around 10 p.m. when Huynh Ngoc Hung, 45, was trying to remove the explosives from the bomb he found in Thach Tru Tay Hamlet.

The explosion killed Hung instantly, injuring his wife, Nguyen Thi Ly, and their friend, Pham Du, who was visiting the house at the time.

In related news, military agencies in Hanoi deactivated a 250-kilogram bomb found in Hanoi's Dong Anh District Wednesday , local news website Dan Tri reported.

The bomb containing 192 kilograms of explosives was at a very high risk of going off when it was detected some one meter underground, said Tang Van Chi, a department director at the Engineer Corps High Command.

Chi was quoted as saying that the bomb was produced by the US and used during the Vietnam War.
