More than 12,000 participants took part in the 6th Annual Lawrence S. Ting charity walk to raise funds for the poor.

The event was organized last Saturday by the Phu My Hung Corporation, the People's Committees of districts 7, 8, Nha Be and Binh Chanh, and Saigon Giai Phong newspaper. The walk covered 2.87 kilometers, starting from the Crescent Lake in the Phy My Hung New Urban Area.

All funds raised from the event will be donated to the Funds for the Poor of the districts as well as to the Ho Chi Minh City Television Charity Fund and the Fund for Sports Talents.

Le Bach, a fifth-grader living in Phu My Hung, was the first to donate to this year's walk when he handed over all the coins that he had collected for his piggy bank during the past year.

The annual Lawrence S. Ting charity walk has been organized by the Phu My Hung Corporation since 2006 and aims to support poor people during the Tet Lunar New Year Festival. The charity walk was named after Lawrence S. Ting, the late chairman of Taipei-based investment giant Central Trading and Development (CT&D).

From 2006 to 2010, the event attracted 66,500 participants and raised a total of VND6 billion for the poor.
