An official with the National Assembly's office has been accused of kicking a female caddy unconscious after playing a bad shot in the northern province of Vinh Phuc.
A Tien Phong newspaper report Tuesday said the director of the Star Dai Lai Golf Club has filed a complaint with local police, asking them to investigate the case.
The 25-year-old caddy, Pham Thi Tuyet, is now under treatment at the Phuc Yen General Hospital with injuries in her right thigh and chest after the attack by 28-year-old Tran Hai Le, an expert with the National Assembly office's diplomatic department, on Sunday, the newspaper said.
Initial information is that Tuyet was assigned to assist Le, who has been a member of the club for nearly three years.
When Le was about to hit a ball into his 16th hole, Tuyet found that several people were in the range of 200 meters, meaning that they were still in danger zone, so she asked him to wait, newspaper reported.
However, the man played his shot, which was not a good one, according to a report on VnExpress. Furiously, he kicked the caddy, making her lose consciousness, it said.
Tuyet was rushed to the hospital by her colleagues, while Le was taken to the police station for questioning. He was released later that same day, according to the report.
Tien Phong said an official of the National Assembly had accompanied Le that day.
It quoted the club's staff as saying that the man was hot-tempered and has verbally abused and attack other caddies earlier.
A Tuoi Tre report Wednesday quoted Le as saying he had apologized to Tuyet later and offered to pay all of her hospital fees.
Meanwhile, Do Van Chinh, chief of Ngoc Thanh Commune, where the golf club is located, told Tuoi Tre that the case is "not serious" so police will consider handling it "administratively" (no criminal charge), if the two parties agreed on conciliation.
