Thousands of people from all over the country attended the funeral of Nguyen Thi Thu, whose nine sons died battling foreign occupation.
Thu, also known as one of Vietnam's greatest mothers, died of natural causes in the central province of Quang Nam, last Friday.
She was 106 years old.
Thu lost her son-in-law and two grandchildren in the wars as well.
She personally contributed to Vietnam's efforts to fight French and American domination by building five tunnels in her garden to hide Vietnamese soldiers.
Last year, Quang Nam's authorities launched a project to build a national memorial site featuring a statue of Thu.
It was reported that 7,209 Quang Nam women sacrificed their children during the wars.
The site will take up 15 hectares of Cam mountain. VND81 billion (US$4.15 million) was donated to the project from various organizations and the provincial budget.
