Forty Vietnamese-made basket boats (coracles) were handed over to Thai flood victims on Saturday as part of flood aid from Thai companies.
The group of Thai enterprises doing business in Vietnam and Laos ordered 80 basket boats, which were made in the central province of Phu Yen, three months ago.
The first batch was delivered to Thai people on November 11.
The companies also hired a boat-making worker from Phu Yen to travel to Thailand to instruct Thai people on how to use the boats.
Kieng Mekvasedpun, general director of Thailand-based Appropriate Technology Consultant Co. Ltd., told Thanh Nien the basket boats an exclusive product of Vietnam are more suitable for traveling in flooded areas than long boats.
He said a project, funded by the companies, to instruct Thai people in coastal areas to make and use basket boats will be launched in March 2012.
