Police in Vietnam's central province of Khanh Hoa said Monday they have arrested a Vietnamese-American man for accidentally shooting and killing a local man who had accompanied him on a hunting trip, Tuoi Tre reported.
Nguyen Nam, 53, who was hunting endangered monkeys, will be charged with "manslaughter," violating regulations on the protection of endangered animals" and "illegal storage and use of weapons."
On March 13 Nam hired four ethnic Raglai men to accompany him to a forest near Cam Ranh town for hunting.
He shot two monkeys, but, at around 3:30 p.m. that day, when Cao Thang one of the four guides climbed a tree to look for monkeys, Nam mistook him for one and shot him.
Thang, 41, fell off the tree and died on the spot.
After examining the scene and his body, local police seized the two monkey carcasses and Nam's gun.
They did not elaborate how they arrested Nam.
He had shot two douc langurs, a species protected by Vietnamese law, they said.
