Police in the southern province of Tien Giang on Tuesday arrested two young men for killing another to settle an argument on Facebook.
Bui Nguyen Tan Tin, 19, directly killed the victim while his friend Tu Tuan Bao, 20, accompanied and provided the knife.
The victim Vo Thai Nguyen Phong, 16, was working for an ornamental fish shop in the province’s capital town My Tho, also where he was stabbed at around 7 p.m. on Monday.
Tin and Phong told the police that Tin squabbled with Phong on Facebook, the dominant social network in Vietnam.
Then they had a fight with Phong on the street on Monday afternoon but Phong fled to the shop.
Bao fetched a knife from his home and they drove a motorbike to the shop that night.
Tin stabbed him from behind and threatened to “cut you if you come back here tomorrow.”
But Phong never did. He collapsed on the floor and was rushed to hospital by a colleague but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Tests found he was stabbed through his lung and died of blood loss.
