Officials from Tay Ninh Province in southern Vietnam confirmed Tuesday that a local woman had died of multiple injuries in Malaysia and her family is preparing for her funeral.
Tran Ngoc Niem, mother of 24-year-old Doan Kim Thanh, said she could not reach her daughter by phone on the night of April 20 and asked Thanh’s friends to check.
They found Thanh's body in her room with injuries.
Niem said her daughter went to Malaysia three years ago to work in a cafe.
Her friends said she and her boyfriend had argued a lot recently.
They reported her death to the police, but there was no word on the investigation as of press time.
Niem said some people from her family have left for Malaysia to bring the body home, possibly on Thursday.
“Now I just want to bring my daughter home for her to rest,” she said, sitting by the altar she has set up.
In January a Vietnamese woman was raped and robbed in Malaysia and had to stay at a local hospital for a month.
The attack happened one month after Malaysian police arrested a local man suspected of killing a Vietnamese woman in a hotel room.
