Police in Ho Chi Minh City's District 10 have detained a woman and hunted three accomplices who allegedly helped her rob a female Japanese tourist last week.

Mayata Yuki was waiting for a taxi at Tan Binh District-based Tan Son Nhat International Airport on March 10 when Nguyen Van Tung approached her, struck up a conversation and took her to a hotel on 3/2 Street in District 10.

Tung, Nguyen Thi Huong, and two women identified by police only as Linh and Thuy, offered to give Yuki a massage, and made use of the latter's unawareness to steal her belongings and cash worth VND100 million (US$4,800) in total.

The gang reportedly stole $1,190 in USD, 5,800 Japanese Yen ($61), VND11 million and a pair of earrings from the Japanese visitor, according to media news reports.

Realizing what had happened, Yuki screamed for help and the hotel staff helped her catch Huong, 38.

News website VnExpess reported that the other three managed to escape with the stolen property.

Huong has confessed to being involved in several similar robberies in HCMC.
