A Ho Chi Minh City court on Friday sentenced a container truck driver to 15 years in prison for violating traffic rules and causing a crash that killed five people last year.
Vo Van Rang, 49, was also ordered to pay around VND2 billion (US$89,700) as compensation to families of the victims, including three Vietnamese-American people.
Early morning on May 31, 2015, Rang drove the truck down an overpass in Thu Duc District at around 60 kilometers per hour.
He reportedly saw the red light and hit the brake, but it did not work.
