A container truck driver involved in an accident that killed six people and injured 12 others on earlier this week will remain in police custody for four months pending investigation.
Bui Xuan Ha, 30, from Hai Phong City, gave himself in to the police on Wednesday, one day after his truck crashed head-on into a bus on National Highway 18A in Quang Ninh Province, killing six bus passengers and injuring 12 others, including the bus driver.
Ha fled after the accident. According to the police, Ha's truck allegedly encroached on the opposite lane and hit the bus.
At the time of the accident, Ha was driving the truck from Hai Phong to Hai Yen Industrial Park in Quang Ninh Province’s Mong Cai City.
Ha told the police he had turned off the truck’s "black box," a small data recorder installed in the vehicle, when he arrived at Quang Ninh’s Uong Bi Town.
On Wednesday, the Hai Phong City Department of Transport revoked the automobile business license of Dong Bac Transport Joint Stock Company, which owned the container truck, for a month.
