Police in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong on Wednesday arrested a teenager who stole a motorbike in front of a police station with the intention of getting money to pay for his own traffic fine.
Nguyen Thach Thao, 19, has been detained along with Le Huu Hoang Phuc, 20, who assisted him.
On Tuesday, Thao reportedly came to the station of Da Lat City’s Traffic Police Unit to receive the ticket for his traffic violation. His motorbike had been confiscated by the police earlier.
Thao did not have enough money to pay the fine and left.
When he came out, he saw a motorbike parked in front of the police station, with the key still on.
He jumped on the bike and drove away.
He met Phuc and asked him to help sell the bike.
Phuc refused to sell it, but agreed to hide it inside a football field.
The pair was arrested on Wednesday evening. Police also returned the stolen bike to its owner.
