Police in Ho Chi Minh City have detained a 17-year-old boy suspected of killing a girl inside a hotel room.
The suspect, identified as Nguyen Van Thien, and the 13-year-old girl were staying at the hotel with other students and teachers from a school in the central province of Quang Binh, after returning from a trip to Singapore.
They were leaving for home Wednesday afternoon when the boy said he had lost his passport and asked the girl to help search for it in his room.
The teachers waited for 15 minutes in the lobby before some went up to check.
They found the girl unconscious in the bathroom and while they were busy rushing her to a hospital, the boy fled.
But according to news website VietNamNet, police on Friday morning said they have found him.
Zing News said preliminary tests showed the girl had been sexually abused.
She died Thursday morning.
Some students in the group said the boy liked the girl but she had turned him down many times.
