A shipping agency in Maldives has submitted a petition to the Male Port Authority to confiscate a Vietnamese vessel that has been docked in the Indian Ocean island nation for several months.

According to Le Tuan, vice chairman of Vietnam Seafarers Union, the petition says the ship Seahome Sapphire should be auctioned off and proceeds used to pay salaries owed by the Vietnamese ship owner to the crew.

The Seahome Sapphire belongs to the Agribank Leasing Company No. 2 and was leased to Gia Hai Sea Transport Company.

The ship has in the Male Port for over five months now, leaving its crew, including 13 Vietnamese, five Myanmar and one Indian, in the lurch.

The crew had requested help after the operating company suspended their salary and fuel for the vessel.
