A policeman in Vietnam’s Central Highlands was killed on Wednesday night and his colleague was injured when they were investigating rock-throwing gangs and got caught in a violent fight.
The two officers were assigned to a village in Gia Lai Province to secretly investigate accusations that local gangsters threw rocks at travelers on a national highway.
At around 9 p.m., there was a violent fight between two gangs.

Members from one of the gangs thought the officers, who were in plain clothes at the time, were their rivals and started throwing rocks and canes at them.
One officer, 30-year-old Nay Plong, died on the spot after a rock hit his head and he fell. The other, 27-year-old Nguyen Thanh Trung, suffered internal injuries and is still in critical condition.
Gia Lai police are questioning some suspects and looking for others.
