Police in Thanh Hoa in northern Vietnam have demoted a traffic officer after he shot and injured a violator who refused to cooperate.
Hoang Manh Trung is transferred from the traffic police team of the province’s capital town to a ward team for using his rubber bullet gun.
Trung and several officers stopped two men riding a motorbike on May 3 as they did not wear obligatory crash helmets.
An officer from Thanh Hoa’s police said the motorists tried to take back their vehicle, causing minor injuries to Trung’s legs.
Then Trung “failed to control his temper” and he fired one shot into the sky and another one that hit Nguyen Thanh Nghia, one of the two motorists, in the hip, the officer said.
Trung has visited Nghia to apologize.
