Two Vietnamese men have been detained in Singapore awaiting trial on July 8 on charges of stealing spare parts  of shovel trucks from construction sites.

Pham Quang Hanh, 35, and Trinh Huu Chinh, 43, are charged with stealing an electronic device worth more than US$8,000 from a shovel truck at a construction site in Aljunied on June 27 evening.

They also stole dozens of spare parts of other shovel trucks in Singapore, local police said.

The duo was arrested at Singapore's Changi Airport on June 29 when they were checking in for a flight bound for Hanoi.

The police found around 20 devices worth over $80,000 in their luggage.

The police believe the duo are members of a Vietnamese gang engaged in theft.

Under Singaporean law, the two men could each face a jail term of three years and a fine of $8,000.
