Police in Long An Province on Monday arrested a local man who allegedly tortured his 12-year-old son and caused the boy's death on Saturday.
The boy succumbed to severe injuries to his brain and lungs, police in the southern province said.
Pham Van Xuyen, 57, who was drunk on Friday evening, tied up his son with a rope and repeatedly beat the boy on his head, back and chest, police said.
The father told police that he was angry that night because his son often stole some ducks and eggs from the family.
After beating his son, Xuyen left the boy on the ground and went to bed.
The man reportedly woke up at around 2 a.m. the next morning, untied his son, and took the boy to bed.
His relatives discovered the boy’s death hours later.
