A 32-year-old man has allegedly killed his two sons and committed suicide after his wife left him for his violence.
Neighbors found the bodies of Pham Chi Thanh and the children, aged 6 and 11, at their home in the northern province of Yen Bai at around 4 p.m. on Thursday.
Preliminary investigation found that earlier that day, Thanh asked his brother-in-law Dao Van Phu to help him cut down some trees.
At around 3 p.m., Thanh suddenly attacked Phu but the victim managed to escape.
Soon later neighbors visited Thanh's house and found that he and his sons were all dead.
Pham Tuan Anh, a local official, told the press that Thanh had reportedly beaten his wife, Dao Thi Chi, many times after suspecting that she had an affair.
He attempted to kill her once, Anh said.
The official also said that after Chi left him in July, Thanh searched for her and started showing signs of mental problems.
Before his death, he went to the southern province of Dong Nai to see his wife's family, but they refused to tell him where she was.
Police said they found a death note, in which Thanh wrote that he would kill his sons and himself because his wife had left him.
