A crane truck crashed into a tree on the street in north central Vietnam Tuesday, causing a broken branch to hit and kill a man.
Vo Huy Duc, 61, was killed on the spot as he was standing around 5 meters from the truck in Nghe An Province.
The truck weighing around 15 tons suddenly moved back and hit the tree, uprooting it. When the tree fell, a branch around two meters long broke and was thrown toward Duc, breaking his head.
Eyewitnesses said the truck was sent by local private material construction firm Hung Vinh to rescue another truck of the company, which was caught in a drainage hole while driving into the company's yard, news website VietNamNet reported. Its driver has disappeared.
Many people were watching the truck at the time, including Duc.
The news website cited some locals as saying that a man named Ba, who ran a shop next to Hung Vinh, had hired the truck to remove the tree as it obstructed the view of his shop.
Local police are investigating.
