Police in Hau Giang Province in southern Vietnam Tuesday arrested a man for allegedly burning his wife after she refused to share his bed.
The police said they would hold Danh Song, 32, for four months for questioning for murder.
His wife survived after jumping into a river in front of their house, but the police said his intention and her severe injuries could well earn him the charge.
Investigators found that he attacked his wife one night in early March after returning home from work tipsy and singing with some neighbors until late.
Then he called his wife and 14-year-old son to leave their room and sleep with him in the sitting room, but she refused.
Angered, he took gasoline from his motorbike, splashed it on her and set her on fire with a lighter.
His son ran out of the room quickly and escaped danger.
The family is poor with no stable income, and the couple argued constantly, the police said.
