Vietnamese man arrested for killing gay customer to steal rings

The Ho Chi Minh City police Saturday arrested a man for allegedly killing another while they were having sex to steal the latter's gold rings.

Pham Van Day, 22, was arrested while returning a hotel room key in Thu Duc District after a suspicious employee, who had heard screams and seen blood flowing from under the room door, called the police.

The victim was a local aged 46 identified only as N.N.T., who was found on the toilet floor in a pool of blood.

Day is from nearby Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province and got to know T. while working on trucks transporting fruit between the two places.

He told the police that T. had offered to pay for sex and had been doing that for around two weeks.

He had planned for the robbery by bringing a knife along, and stabbed T. in the neck before suffocating him with a pillow.

The police said T. had been married and Day was planning to.

A court in nearby Dong Nai Province recently sentenced two men to death for killing their gay partner and dismembering him to disposing off the body in December 2012.

The victim's had refused to give one of the killers VND500 million (US$23,500) he had promised.
