Vietnamese jailed as killing husband to fight sex abuse

A court in north-central Vietnam sentenced a woman to 15 years in jail, on Monday, for killing her abusive husband.
Nguyen Thi Lien, 53, was convicted of murder at her trial in Nghe An Province after she testified that her husband's abuse had forced her hand, news website VnExpress reported.
According to her indictment, the woman's husband Bui Van Vua, 59, woke her up early on April 9 demanding sex but she refused him.
Vua threatened to beat her to death, and dragged her into their front yard, where he began striking her with a 30-centimeter iron bar.
Lien fought back, seized the bar and bashed in his head.
She went back to bed and only discovered that her husband's unconscious body when she woke up at 6am

Lien initially told investigators that he'd had a stroke, but later confessed to having assaulted him.
During trial, her three children asked that her sentence be reduced, saying that although they were angry with her, she’s the only person left to take care of them.
The prosecutors said Lien had inflicted more than 20 "brutal" injuries on her husband and demanded the sentence.
