Fishermen from southern Vietnam have rescued two Cambodian fishermen who said they had jumped into the sea to escape their violent Thai boss.

Ly Ruol, 47, and Dol Dol, 33, were rescued by a boat from Kien Giang Province April 15 and transferred to the border gate unit of Ca Mau Province last Friday.

The fishermen told Ca Mau officials that they had been working on a Thai boat where they were often beaten up, and jumped overboard with buoys to escape the cruelty.

They are waiting for papers to be sent home.
