A fishing boat from the central province of Quang Ngai has rescued four people thought to be Filipino fishermen who were clinging to a piece of styrofoam in the sea off Truong Sa (Spratly) Sunday.
Border guards Tuesday received a call from the vessel of Nguyen Huu Phuc about the rescue, news website VnExpress reported.
Officials said that based on Phuc's description the victims could be Philippine nationals.
Phuc told his family that his crew spotted the four men after they screamed for help.
"They were exhausted by the cold and hunger," he said.
"They became stable after two days after being fed soft porridge."
Phuc's boat is scheduled come back to shore Friday.
