A Vietnamese man has been arrested in the Philippines after a crane truck he was driving caused a fatal accident.

Filipino newspapers quoted Manila police as saying that the lid of a cargo container from Vietnam hit and killed Carlo Salcedo, a 32-year-old Filipino examiner for a company at Manila bay.

The lid was being carried by a crane operated by the 32-year-old Vietnamese man, whose name was not revealed.

Allan Ogalesco, Salcedo's intern, confirmed that the crane had caused the accident.

Police said Salcedo suffered multiple injuries because he was pressed by the lid. He died on the way to hospital.

The newspapers suggested that the Vietnamese man was careless and caused the accident. The case has been reported to Vietnam's embassy.

Forensic tests are being conducted on the body.
