A court in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap on Wednesday handed down a five-year sentence to the driver of a crane truck that was responsible for three deaths last May.
Nguyen Thai Quynh, 30, was convicted of manslaughter. The truck-mounted crane fell on the motorbike driven by Cao Tuong Van, 31, carrying her son and daughter, aged 5 and 2, behind her.
On May 5, 2015, Quynh was in charge of driving the truck to a construction site.
He asked three other workers to warn people about the incoming truck.
But before the workers managed to do so, Quynh started the engine to operate the truck.
The truck then got its cable broken due to overload.
According to police, Quynh failed to drive the truck properly.
They said Quynh was trained to drive crane trucks, but he did not have a safety certificate.
