Customs officials in Ho Chi Minh City said Sunday that they caught a Vietnamese and a Chinese trying to smuggle in more than five kilograms of methamphetamine from Singapore on two separate occasions last week.
On October 15 officials at Tan San Nhat International Airport found 2.04 kilograms of crystal meth in the luggage of Zhou Bingxue, a 22-year-old Chinese national.
Four days later a 29-year-old Vietnamese, referred to only as T.T.N, was found with some 3.1 kilograms of crystal meth hidden in his suitcase at Tan Son Nhat.
Customs said it has handed over the duo to the Ho Chi Minh City police's drug crimes division for further investigation.
Vietnam has some of the world's toughest drug laws. Those convicted of smuggling more than 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kilograms of methamphetamine face the death penalty.
