A taxi driver in the southern province of Binh Duong, which neighbors Ho Chi Minh City, has made a chilling discovery when he checked on a drunk who passed out in the back of his car.
The driver, identified only as M., said his dispatcher had ordered him on Saturday to pick up a passenger in Phu Loi Ward in Binh Duong’s Thu Dau Mot Town and take him to the hospital.
When he arrived at the pickup spot, M. said a couple dumped a man into the back of his car and left him in the back seat before running away without a word of explanation.
Believing the passenger to be dead drunk, he tried to ask if he needed some help--only to discover the drunk was dead.
The frightened driver immediately called the police, who later identified the body as 22-year-old Phan Thanh Hieu of the nearby Dong Nai Province.
Preliminary investigation found evidence that Hieu died of a drug overdose, investigators said. Autopsy would be underway to ascertain the cause of death, they said.
Binh Duong police are tracking down the couple for further investigation.
