A Hanoi court on Wednesday sentenced a 60-year-old blogger to five years in prison after finding him guilty of posting anti-state comments.
Nguyen Huu Vinh, known for his blog Anh Ba Sam, published more than 2,000 articles in question on two other blogs, Dan quyen and Chep su Viet, attracting over 3.7 million views, according to the court.
Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy, 36, got three years for the same charges of “abusing democratic freedom to infringe upon the interests of the state.” The court said Thuy assisted Vinh.
The two were arrested on May 5, 2014. They pleaded not guilty at the trial.
Head judge Nguyen Van Pho said their acts were against the state.
The defendants have published writings that slander the nation, he said.
In 2014, another blogger, Truong Duy Nhat, was sentenced to two years in a similar case.
