Workers of a construction company unearthed a 113-kilogram wartime bomb in the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu on Thursday.
The workers of Thang Long No. 8 Construction Joint Stock Company found the unexploded Mark 81 (Mk 81) bomb under a river while they were exploring the riverbed to build an embankment in Ganh Hao Town, Dong Hai District.
The one-meter long bomb was dropped by American troops during the Vietnam War.
The workers fished the bomb out of the river, took it ashore and erected warning signs around it.
Provincial military officers were then informed of the discovery.
The Mark 81 (Mk 81) 250 lb (113 kg) general purpose bomb (nicknamed "Firecracker") was the smallest of the Mark 80 series of low-drag general-purpose bombs.
