Vietnam Golf Association has invited international experts to rank local 18-hole golf courses for the first time, news website Vietnamnet reported Wednesday.
The first four courses to be ranked under the US Golf Association (USGA)'s ranking system are Twin Doves Golf Resort, and Vietnam Golf & Country Club in HCMC; Dunes Course in the central city of Danang, and the Montgomerie Links in the central town of Hoi An.
It is the first step in a project to establish a system that will calculate handicaps a numerical measure of an amateur golfer's performance based on the tees played for a given course, Nguyen Ngoc Chu, secretary general of the association, said on the website.
Once all the courses are ranked, the association can give players handicaps which allow players of different levels to play against each other on somewhat equal terms at its member clubs in accordance with a national system, the news source said.
Vietnamese golf courses will then be recognized by the USGA, meaning that international golfers can submit their handicaps when playing at one of the courses, Jeff Puchalski, head of Fore Golf Asia and a member of US Golf Association, was quoted as saying.
