Border guards in the southern coastal province of Ba Ria Vung Tau on Wednesday has asked the local government to fine a Malaysian boat for discharging its waste into local waters.

The guards last Friday found Timik Samudra spilling CMC (carboxymethyl cellulose), which is used in the oil drilling industry as an ingredient to drill mud, acting as a viscosity modifier and water retention agent.

They also caught the boat selling scrap in eight drums to local fishermen near Vung Tau beach. The boat at the time had not obtained official permission to enter Vietnamese waters.
