Several fourth graders in southern Vietnam have been sent to the hospital to have their injuries checked, after there were accusations that a teacher had beaten them at school.
Parents of seven boys from Binh Phuoc Province, around 80 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City, earlier filed a complaint with local police and education authorities because their boys came home with bruised butts.
The boys said that they had skipped a school cleaning session on November 17 to play football and they were beaten as a punishment.
Their classmates had told their music teacher Tran Ngoc Phuong. Phuong interrogated each of the boys and unceasingly beat their butts in front of the class with a wood cane 75 centimeters long and two centimeters thick, the boys said.
Hoang Van Do, father of Hoang Van Trong, who was beaten, said Trong did not tell him what happened, but he found out after the boy was unwilling to sit down on a chair.
"His butt was terribly bruised "¦ The boy got 30 beatings. He had so much pain that he could not sleep for several days," Do said.
The 25-year-old teacher admitted he had beat the boys too much but said he "did not mean to."
His employer at Phuoc Son primary school said a council will be set to resolve the matter.
