The State Bank of Vietnam's inspectorate has fined two taxi companies in Ho Chi Minh City VND500 million (US$23,960) each for listing their prices in US currency.

The highest penalties for such violation were levied on Anh Duong Vietnam Corporation, which operates Vinasun taxis, and Saigon Tourist Transport Corporation, which owns Saigontourist taxis, Vietnam News Agency reported Saturday.

The inspectorate said the companies were found listing prices for their services in US currency at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

Last week, three private travel agents in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap were fined for the same violation.

Meanwhile, late last year, the highest penalty was imposed on the Sofitel Metropole Hotel and FPT University, both in Hanoi.
