A court in Vietnam has sentenced two men to death and another to life in prison for trafficking nearly 38 kilograms of heroin from Ha Tinh to Ho Chi Minh City last year.
The death sentences were handed down to Phan Dinh Tuan, 43, and Tran Quang Anh Dung, 45.
Tuan’s delivery man, Nguyen Huu Song, 45, received life imprisonment.
According to the indictment, Tuan and Song met with two unidentified dealers on July 14 near a border gate in Ha Tinh and received more than 13 kg of heroin from them.
Tuan then drove home while Song took a bus down to Ho Chi Minh City with the drug.
Song was arrested on July 15. He confessed that he was hired by Tuan to deliver the drug to Dung for a commission of VND10 million (US$469) and $2,000.
Police then arrested Tuan and Dung, on the same day. They also seized two guns, 122 cartridges and a grenade, among others.
Tuan and Song confessed to police that they had managed to transport 70 bricks, or nearly 24 kg, of heroin from Ha Tinh to HCMC and Dong Nai earlier.
In total they have trafficked more than 37 kg of heroin, far above the 600 gram threshold that is punishable by death.
