Forest management authorities from Quang Tri Province in central Vietnam say they are considering the punishment to be meted out to a compromised forest ranger, following a resident's tip-off.

The resident, Le Dinh Hoan, said in a recent complaint that Nguyen Xuan Tuan, head of the forest ranger station of Huong Lap Commune in Huong Hoa District has been assisting illegal loggers, the Tuoi Tre newspaper reported Sunday.

Hoan said he discovered a truck of illegal timber on May 14, so he called Tuan, who let the truck go without reporting to anyone.

Le Van Thanh, head of the Huong Hoa District Forest Management Unit, said the province's forest authorities have confirmed Hoan's violation and will punish him soon.
