Authorities in the southern province of Kien Giang Friday announced that they have contracted a Japanese and two Vietnamese companies to draft zoning plans for urban areas in the resort island of Phu Quoc.
The contract, which was signed with Nikken Sekkei Civil Engineering Ltd, Development Investment Construction Joint-stock Corporation, and Saigon Investment Construction & Commerce Co., Ltd, is worth over US$1.2 million, according to Lam Hoang Sa, deputy chairman of Kien Giang's People's Committee.
Under the nine-month contract, the companies will make the zoning plans for An Thoi and Duong Dong towns in Phu Quoc District, he said.
Duong Dong will be the island's administrative, tourism, commercial and financial center with a total area of 2,502 hectares.
Meanwhile, An Thoi will be an international seaport urban area, according to Sa.
