Thousands of police, soldiers and students in the northern province of Phu Tho participated in terrorism response drills Wednesday, news website VnExpress reported.
Under the rehearsal situation, a group of terrorists broke into a bank, set timed bombs and threatened the cashiers to hand over the money.
The terrorists also captured several hostages and demanded the police to release associates who were in jail. They demanded getaway cars and petrol in exchange for the hostages.
Tran Dai Quang, Minister of Public Security, said the rehearsal will make security officers and the public highly aware of the tactics used by terrorist groups to better deal with such cases.
Quang said police forces have to help local governments prevent small civil conflicts from escalating into larger problems.
