Police in the northern province of Thai Nguyen summoned a preschool teacher for questioning Thursday after a three-year-old girl was crushed to death by a falling wardrobe at school.

Le Thanh Tam, daughter of Dai Tu District's Le Van Chien and Le Thi Thanh, was reportedly unsupervised when she approached the wardrobe just before the accident happened Tuesday, according to investigators.

The wardrobe collapsed and crushed her, and the child died shortly afterwards, police said.

The child's teacher at Quan Chu Commune Preschool, Truong Thi Toan, 29, told police she had just taken Tam to the toilet before the tragedy.

Toan said that she didn't notice when the girl then ran back to class after finishing in the toilet.

The girl reached up to the wardrobe door above her to take her trousers, and the wardrobe collapsed, the teacher said.

Police are investigating the incident.
