Police in the northern Vietnamese province of Ha Tinh said they will punish a senior officer for using an unregistered, and thus illegal, license plate for a car he has used for patrols.

Senior Lieutenant Colonel Vo Trong Hung, head of Ha Tinh Traffic Police Department where Senior Lieutenant Colonel Thai Van Tien is deputy head, said that the Toyota Zace was registered under the name of Tien's daughter in Hanoi with the license plate 30K-4015.

Tien received the car from his daughter and used a license plate numbered 38A-025.58 when using the vehicle in Ha Tinh, without transferring the ownership title or registering the vehicle for a new license plate, Hung said.

Hung said the latter license plate has not been issued for any vehicle, adding that what Tien did was "wrong."

"We'll learn from this experience and punish [Tien] strictly," he said without providing details on the punishment.
