Police in Quang Binh Province Monday seized a frozen tiger carcass and tiger bones from an SUV they had flagged down.

The driver, Ho Van Bang, 41, and Nguyen Van Ngon, 39, who was also in the car, claimed they did not know what was in the sacks they were carrying, which also contained turtle shells and the bones of unidentified animals.

They were arrested and handed over to provincial investigators.

The carcass weighed 148 kilograms and was 2.34 meters long. The bones, believed to be from a smaller tiger, weighed 34 kg.

The police also found several license plates in the car, including military and government plates.

Investigators said the duo had attempted to bribe the traffic police.
