Police in the north central province of Nghe An seized more than 2.6 kilograms of heroin on Saturday from a group of local women.
Acting on tips from local residents, police followed the traffickers for nearly a hundred kilometers before pulling the drugs out of a box of instant noodles.
Lo Thi Thu had the box in her possession when she boarded a bus in Vinh, the provincial capitol.
Then she took a taxi to the house of Tran Thi Hoai and gave the box to Le Thi Hang, a neighbor.
Hang and her neighbor Phung Ba Dung, 23, were about to sell the merchandise when the police stepped in.
Police have arrested the people involved for further investigation.
Vietnam has some of the world’s toughest drug laws. Those convicted of smuggling more than 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kilograms of methamphetamine face the death penalty.
