Ho Chi Minh City police are investigating the death of a one-year-old boy who died from brain injuries at an unlicensed nursery, Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reported.

Police said Vu Thi Bich Van, 34, of District 8 provided babysitting services at her house.

Cao Thi Hong Phuong, 36, sent Nguyen Doan Long, her 13-month-old son, to the nursery on November 11.

Phuong and Van agreed that the fee for babysitting each day would be VND20,000 (around US$1), and Van would babysit from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. everyday.

At 5:45 p.m. November 14, Long's aunt came to Van's house to pick him up early. Van was carrying Long in her arms, saying he was injured.

Long was rushed to Cho Ray Hospital, where doctors said he had brain injuries.

Despite treatment, Long died on Sunday.

Van has been babysitting for several years, according to her neighbors. She was babysitting three kids at her house at the time of the incident.

She has been apprehended for investigations.
