Police in the southern Vietnamese province of Dong Nai are investigating the death of a five-year-old boy while in the care of an illegal private day care center, Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper reported.
At around 4:30 p.m. last Monday, Huynh Thi Anh Dao of Bien Hoa city's Hoa An Commune went to the Bao Ha Day Care to pick up her son Trinh Minh Hoang.
But he was missing.
When she and some of the staff began to frantically look for the boy, they found him dead and floating in a nearby 1.5 meter-deep pond.
According to the police, he may have wandered out of the center due to the carelessness of the staff before falling into the pond.
The center, owned by 47-year-old Dao Thi Trinh, was operating without a license out of a few sparsely furnished rented apartments, the police said, and had around a dozen kids aged between three and six.
