Police in the central town of Hoi An have arrested four people who allegedly robbed foreign tourists on six occasions last week, Dan Tri online newspaper reported Wednesday.
Nguyen Minh Hieu, 16, Le Tuan Hieu, 16, Pham Huu Loi, 19, and Nguyen Tran Huu Phuc, 15, are accused of committing robberies in the central province of Quang Nam's most famous tourist town between July 25-28, the report quoted police as saying.
Police said they confiscated from the suspects three motorbikes, four mobile phones, three cameras, two electronic dictionaries, one iPod, two handbags, more than VND1 million in cash and some foreign currency.
According to police, in one of the cases, a 34-year-old Australian woman had her handbag snatched by a man on a motorbike as she rode a bicycle the night of July 24.
Four days later, a 26-year-old Austrian woman was also riding a bike when two men on a motorbike snatched her bag containing a camera and an iPad.
Police are investigating.
Recognized as a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1999, ancient Hoi An Town is one of Vietnam's top tourist sites. Last month, it was ranked 17th among the top 25 destinations in Asia by the popular travel website TripAdvisor.
