At 5:30 p.m. on October 23 the tourist, known only as Kazumi, 43, took a taxi to Tao Dan Park in District 1.
The driver asked Kazumi for her mobile phone, worth around VND6 million (US$282), so that he could calculate the fare.
He then told her to get out of the car and wait. As soon as she did so, he shut the door and drove away.
