Police in the southern province of Binh Phuoc announced on Sunday they have recently revoked the licenses of 23 karaoke parlors for providing sexual services.

Colonel Hoang Van Hue, the province's police chief, said they had organized a mass raid of local karaoke shops earlier, discovering violations at many of them, including signs that sexual services were on offer, such as having female employees accompany customers to private rooms and not wearing underwear.

Some shops also had the women perform dances aimed at sexually arousing clients, Hue said.

He said the police have recommended related authorities not reissue licenses to violating shops. They also imposed cash fines, but Hue did not specify the amounts.

Thanh Nien found on Monday that several of the karaoke parlors were still operating despite the order to shut down.
