Police in the central province of Nghe An arrested Friday a man who posed as a scrap collector to smuggle drugs from Laos to Vietnam, the Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper reported.
Trinh Xuan Yen, 36, was caught red-handed carrying more than 6,000 ecstasy tablets with him. The police later searched his house in Dien Chau District and seized an additional 200 ecstasy tablets hidden carefully in some places.
Police said Yen, whose wife is a Lao national, had visited Laos as a scrap collector over the last few years, but was actually a member of a transnational drug smuggling ring.
Further investigations into the case are ongoing.
